Language, identity and art in the Filipino diaspora

Multilingual performance and storytelling (Spanish, Tagalog and English) and a conversation between Karessa Malaya and Patricia Jane Chipongian on languages, identity and art in the Spanish Filipino community. Against a tendency of hiding and silencing this community of over 200,000 people, both artists will defend their importance in today’s society and the necessity of a bigger engagement in relevant cultural and artistic spaces in this country. After this first part, the event will continue with a talk in which we will deepen into linguistic inequalities affecting the Filipino community in Spain, as well as the cultural and artistic initiatives being developed to reverse this process.
