Have you ever thought about learning Catalan? Do you like languages? Do you need Catalan for your work or your daily life? If your answer is yes, the moment has come for you to speak the language of petonets, abraçades and the Mediterranean. The UAM is now opening, for another year, the enrollment in Catalan courses.
What do we offer? Three yearly courses with whom you may discover Catalan, its culture and history. If you are interested in translation or contemporary languages, their communication and culture, you can enroll in Catalan D1/D2, that are part of the Degree in Translation. You can choose it as optional courses or, even, in Aula Abierta, regardless of the degree you are currently studying! If you want to study a 4 Colleges degree or a Master’s/Degree in Catalonia, Valencian Community or the Balearic Islands, you can choose Catalan: living and communicating I and II, two 3 ECTS courses, to learn who to socialize, live and communicate in Catalan. Moreover, if you are curious about other Spanish languages, like Galicia, Euskera and Asturian and want to understand them, you have another course just for that, called Spanish Languages: Tools for Learning and Intercomprehension. These three courses are transversal and open. If you are PTGAS, PDI or event an outsider to UAM, don’t worry! Aula Abierta allows you to enroll in all three courses. Besides, these classes are dynamic, focused on communication and conversation and allow you to explore not just the languages, but also Catalan culture and history.
All courses are planned for Spanish or other Romance languages speakers, so you need no previous knowledge of the language to enroll. Thanks to these courses, you may gain an A2/B1 level at the end of the year, paving the way for higher accreditation levels.
Thanks to the Collaboration Agreement between the Institut Ramon Llull and UAM, these courses have been active for 9 years, here at UAM. Besides the courses themselves, other cultural activities are regularly scheduled and made public on Instagram and the web of Catalan studies. In fact, if you are enrolled, you may have the chance to do free linguistic stays in Catalan, either in Barcelona, València, Palma or Andorra. That along with the preparation these courses offer to the official Catalan certification.
