Landscapes of Protest Movements

At MIRCo-UAM, we explore the linguistic and semiotic landscapes of protest movements—spaces where words, images, and bodies reclaim the city and reimagine political participation.

Here’s a glimpse of our work.

Conference by Luisa Martín Rojo at the Universidad Austral, Chile, 2022

This lecture was delivered by Professor Luisa Martín Rojo, Director of the Interdisciplinary Research Centre on Multilingualism, Discourse and Communication (MIRCo) at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. It was organised by Professor Camila Cárdenas of the Universidad Austral de Chile as part of an international cooperation visit, which was framed within the implementation of the FONDECYT Initiation Project No. 11200446. The discussion focused on how the communicative practices of protest movements have intervened in the construction of urban space and how, in turn, these practices have been shaped by the very spaces in which they emerged.
Luisa examined this issue within the social and political context of contemporary protest movements—particularly those that have arisen since 2010 and that have stood out for the novelty and creativity of their collective forms of action.
