The monographic “In search of sociolinguistic justice: mobilizing transformative agency through action-research” is published

In November 2025, the publishing of the monographic In search of sociolinguistic justice: Mobilizing transformative agency through action research was completed. It was coordinated by researchers Lara Alonso (MIRCo member) and Jone Goirigolzarri-Garaizar and published in the Language Policy journal.

This monographic digs deep in how agency is mobilized to tackle inequalities mediated by language within the field of Critical Language Policy and Planning (CCPL). It is based on the results and lessons from EquiLing (Agencia Estatal de Investigación), a coordinated project focused on the sociolinguistic analysis of the Spanish State official languages. In Equiling, numerous debates on the current linguistic context between researchers from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Universidad de Deusto, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya and Unversidade de Santiago de Compostela were had, and numerous transformative actions were taken in different spaces (in Catalunya, Galicia, Madrid and Basque Country).

Many MIRCo members have actively contributed to this monographic, and, from the center, we encourage its reading and discussion. This special issue can be accessed for free here, with articles listed below:
