Linguist Yásnaya Elena A. Gil invites us to reflect on languages in the latest episode of Reina Sofía Radio

Yásnaya Elena A. Gil has participated, in collaboration with the Reina Sofía National Art Museum, in the recording of the episode The Future We Envision Must Be Multilingual (El futuro que pensemos tiene que ser multilingüe) for Reina Sofía Museum Radio (RRS).

This conversation reflects on the phenomenon of racism and discrimination and its impact on endangered languages. Yásnaya argues that structural oppression ultimately kills languages through the exercise of violence against their communities, linking the context of her native language, Mixe, to a global dynamic dominated by power and imposition.

Through this piece, the linguist invites us to reflect on the future of languages, the role they play in society, and how they exist within us. Don’t miss it! Both the recording and the transcript are available at this link.
