A crowdfunding campaign aimed at financing a physical, digital, and audio map featuring more than 50 sites associated with the resistance and anti-Franco repression in Madrid
The MIRCo-UAM center is helping to coordinate this initiative by the Atado y Bien Atado collective to create the Map of Democratic Memory in Madrid. To make this project a reality, we’re launching a crowdfunding campaign. Join and help us make it happen!
Madrid is a city steeped in memory, even though there are people determined to erase it. Against the policies of forgetfulness promoted in recent years by the right-wing parties in the Community of Madrid and the Madrid City Council, the collective ¿Atado y Bien Atado? is launching a crowdfunding campaign to make the Map of Democratic Memory in Madrid a reality.
The initiative aims to recover, highlight, and publicize more than 50 sites linked to the anti-Franco resistance and repression in the city: spaces associated with workers’, feminist, neighborhood, student, sexual minority, anti-racist, and internationalist struggles. These are places that form part of Madrid’s democratic history and that, in many cases, remain hidden behind the streets, squares, and buildings we pass by every day.
The map, which will be available in print, digital, and audio formats, will be an accessible, educational, and innovative tool for exploring Madrid in a different way. The goal is to bring to stories such as those of the female workers who participated in the Induyco strikes, the people tortured at the former Dirección General de Seguridad at Puerta del Sol, the neighbors’ mobilizations that transformed the city’s districts, and those who fought from universities, factories, prisons, and underground networks.
But the project does not aim merely to create a map of places. It also seeks to create a map of voices and lives. To that end, it will incorporate archival photographs, historical documentation, and audio testimonies from those who led those struggles, with the goal of bringing this history to life, especially for younger generations.
The initiative builds on the work that Madrid’s memorialist movement has been carrying out in the city for decades and will benefit from the methodological collaboration of the MIRCo Center at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and a team specializing in research, communication, design, and digital development.
To make this possible, a crowdfunding campaign has been launched on Goteo to fund the collection of testimonies, graphic design, programming of the interactive map, geolocation of the memorial sites, and production of the materials.
The initiative “¿Atado y Bien Atado?” has called on social groups, memorial organizations, and spaces committed to defending democratic memory to support the campaign.
Every contribution counts. It doesn’t matter if it’s large or small: the more support the project receives, the closer it will be to becoming a reality.

Reclaiming memory isn’t just about looking to the past. It also means defending in the present the struggles, rights, and freedoms that others won before us.
Help us provide a tool to reclaim the Madrid of resistance, struggles, and memory.
