Luisa M. Rojo, director of MIRCo, and Laura Villa, a member of the center, recently published the chapter “The Politics of Language in Spain: Past and Present” in the book Language Policy across Continents (De Gruyter Brill), edited by Michael M. Kretzer, Sinfree Makoni, and Russell H. Kaschula.
In it, the authors explore the complexity of Spain’s sociolinguistic landscape, focusing on co-official languages, different regional varieties, and the dialects of migrant communities. They also examine the relationship between language and nation, tracing Spain’s linguistic history and offering a contemporary and fresh analysis, adapted to the context of Spanish as a global language.
We encourage you to read this chapter and hope it will be useful for your future research!
