The MEMOLAND Project will participate in the workshop “Recuperando la memoria democrática de la Sierra de Guadarrama”, next October 3rd in La Guarida bookstore (Cercedilla)

Forgetfulness, among other causes, facilitates the resurgence and spread of beliefs and practices that deny the existence of fascism. This workshop aims to combat this through the active participation of citizens themselves in recovering and bringing to light testimonies of repression and resistance during the Civil War and the Franco dictatorship. To this end, we will feature various testimonies from the Sierra de Guadarrama. We know that beyond the well-known and documented events, there are countless everyday and personal episodes—often silenced and passed down only within close-knit family circles—that can help enrich and transmit our collective memory. To address this gap, we will present the MEMOLAND mobile app. MEMOLAND allows everyone to share accounts of repression and resistance during the Civil War and the Franco regime in our local area, creating a collaborative map that highlights and organizes them. There will be time to demonstrate how to use the app and show examples of its results. In this way, we aim to build together a living and pluralistic Antifascist Historical Memory, both to acknowledge the past and to address current challenges to democracy.

This workshop is organized in collaboration with the MEMOLAND project, developed by the Foro Social de la  Sierra de Guadarrama and the MIRCo-UAM Research Center on Multilingualism, Discourse, and Communication.
