Do you want to know and study the contributions different minorities did to the collective culture? Do you want to make visible the diversity of our cultural and linguistic patrimony?
Thanks to the new FARO-CIVIS app, now you can do it and use it in your research! The FARO-CIVIS app has been developed by the FARO project, under the CIVIS network, an European university alliance that strengthens the collaboration between universities trough projects and exchanges.
This app has been developed by the MIRCo center, using our previous Voces-Territorios app as a base. The app offers a map where users may register, in an interactive way, the patrimony, either material or immaterial, they encounter in their daily lives. This app works as a methodological tool to use in patrimony studies and other scientific research on the public space and its interaction with the society.
The app allows for the recollection of not only pictures, but also audio, video or texts.
This app is based upon two pillars: first, the citizen science strategy, that allows citizens to actively participate in scientific research; and, second, on the FARO Convention, enacted by the Council of Europe, that protects and puts value on the human patrimony, whether material or immaterial. This app has been endorsed by all the members of the project, with researchers from Aix-Marseille University, Rome-La Sapienza University and the University of Bucharest. Likewise, the app is available in 5 languages (Spanish, English, French, Italian and Romanian), in an effort to promote exchanges between the counties that the respective universities belong to.
This app is already available for free in Google Play, and will arrive to Apple Store soon. We encourage you to discover it and to use it in your research!
How to use it?
Picture yourself having a walk, and you come across a business run by Asian migrants. You think it is interesting and want to log it on the app. To do so, you just need to take a picture from the app. Once you have it, you may answer the attached questionnaire at that moment, and that’s it! You can have the picture uploaded and the questionnaire filled later, too.
If we gather out findings, we can build a city and neighborhoods map where diversity and those who contribute it shown. Join us!
